LAMC in the Glass Chapel

The Lincoln Adventist Men’s Chorus is a group of men whose standards are so low that they let me sing with them! Ok, maybe they are just willing to teach me how to fit in. The group was to have a vespers concert Saturday evening. But that morning, the pianist for the group, was graduating from the University of Nebraska with her music education degree. I couldn’t stand the thought of her graduating all by herself, so I attended. Well, she wasn’t all by herself! UNL had a graduation Friday night, for the doctoral and professional candidates. Saturday morning, when Lily graduated, was amazingly crowded! I counted over 1,400 chairs for the graduates. It was very well organized, and when the diplomas were handed out, they called a name every 2.5 seconds!

At the end of the ceremony, they had all the grads move their own tassels at the same time:

I happen to know the world’s best chocolatier, and asked her to create a graduation gift for Lily. Becky came up with this custom designed mortarboard and some other tasty awards.

In spite of an amazing amount of traffic, I managed to make it to my own church service. The postlude was presented by good friends Laurel, her mother Huda, and the organist who shall remain nameless. (Since I can’t remember.) A very beautiful piece!

So that evening was the vespers in the Glass Chapel. It was built by the Catholic church, and has a long fancy name, but everyone calls it the Glass Chapel.

Being scheduled about sunset means a very pretty view… but the sun is right in the audience’s eyes most of the time. Still very pretty.

Here is a short clip of one of our songs:

Steve, Casey and Jon did a special number, and our pianist Lily did a special as the sun set behind her.

Our friends Brooke and Elise spent a couple of nights with us, as they were driving from Southern University in Tennessee back home in Spokane, Washington. They timed it just right so they got to attend our Glass Chapel Vespers!

This picture is just because I thought the sky looked fantastic! That is our backyard, and if you look carefully you can see little red flags. The utility companies marked our lawn, because they think we are about to do some major landscaping. I hope they’re right! We’ve been waiting a long time for spring and landscaping weather!

I got a little walk on the Mopac Trail… a very nice paved walk right through town. I haven’t been able to find the origin of the name. Wondered if it went from Missouri to the Pacific, but it doesn’t. The covered bridge looks a bit like a big spider web.

Good Buddy Bill spent another night with us, as he was making a cross country trip. Always good to see him!

The other morning we got up quite early and went back to the Spring Creek Audubon center for a guided tour. We saw over 24 species, including two new ones for us. (names here)

Most of the birds didn’t get shot by my camera, but a few got captured…

Thursday night the middle school had a music program. It was very cute, and standing room only!

Following that program was the middle school awards program and eighth grade graduation. Our wonderfully intelligent granddaughter was one of 3 in her class to be awarded for having straight “A’s” for the year. It was cute to see them doing a fist bump to celebrate!

From each class, one girl and one boy was chosen as the best behaved, most helpful, responsible student… Dayna was given that award – the best citizenship in her class. A pretty special kiddo!
