Boston Pops & John Williams!

I have to admit I love all the amazing music John Williams wrote for the Star Wars movies. Written over 43 years, each major character has a unique theme, all the movies have their individual scores, and all fits together as an unmistakable whole. Incredible.

So when the Boston Pops were coming to Lincoln to do Williams’ Star Wars music, I figured we’d have to go. Little did I know when getting tickets (A long time ago…) that we’d be greeted by a host of Star Warsian creatures!

First was Darth Vader and one of his soldiers…

I tried for the light saber, but didn’t feel I should fight for it!

These little kids look a bit unsure about an encounter with one of the Sand People. (I think that’s who this is…)

Ok, maybe a bit of trepidation is warranted!

We had most of the family in attendance, and had the opportunity to pose with lots of creatures I won’t try to name.

The last photo op was with this guy… in a free moment, he was nice and chatty, but when the camera got aimed, he froze in his obligatory pose. He was representing Han Solo, but Harrison Ford he isn’t…

In the pictures, he could have been a wax figure! Unfortunately, Cherryl was not feeling well, but we enjoyed sharing her ticket with good friend Laurel. This is the only picture we could coax her into!

We had fabulous seats, and the concert was even better than I could have hoped! In addition to the majestic music, a narrator told how the pieces fit into the whole movie series, and he was creative, energetic and entertaining!

We’ve had an empty lot a few houses down from us for a while now. Monday a big Cat dug a huge hole…

… and piled the dirt clear up to the moon!

Tuesday they laid all the rebar for the footings.

Wednesday they poured the concrete footings. I got home just as the huge concrete pumper folded up and headed for home.

Thursday they set up the forms for the basement walls.

And Friday they poured the basement walls!

Kevin and Peter came over one evening to work on a fun project… They are making swords! Looks like very interesting old Norse swords.

The first step of many is done!

  1. Awesome! Bruce, I remember surprising my college boyfriend on New Year’s Eve, 1987(?) with a limousine pickup to a concert—John Williams conducting the LA Philharmonic. Love his music!

And just last month, my husband and I read a newly released (in English) graphic novel called Lucas Wars, about the making of Star Wars. Great visual storytelling, highly recommend! Includes description of how Lucas “got” John Williams on the team.
