Before I get to the party, I figured I’d show a couple of old photos. Tonya, a teacher at Union, and a teacher in our Sabbath School class, was in Prague when our daughter Karen was there. Once we realized that, we got thinking maybe we met her there in Prague. So Tonya went through some albums and found a picture of us together! What fun! Karen was teaching there, with Tonya, and we visited her, bringing along Becky and Karen’s then boyfriend Loren. Wonderful!

Our family is planning on a book commemorating our recent Japan Adventure. They asked if we have any pictures of us there 50 years ago. Here is one of a picnic outside a shrine. We appear a bit younger then!

Wednesday evening was a Sabbath School party at Marlyn and Sharon’s home. Their home seems out in the country, with huge lawns and so many trees you can’t see any other homes around. There are a few barns and garages to hold antique cars… more on that in a minute.
We had a great turnout, with lots of folks roasting hot dogs, enjoying corn on the cob, and plenty of potato salad and watermelon. What a great way to bid farewell to summer!
It was to be a “Hats Off” party, with everyone wearing fun headgear. We sadly forgot that part, but enjoyed some of the crazy hats others wore.

There was fun at a variation of Musical Chairs… the leader, Alan, would say a facial part, and everyone playing needed to touch their nose, chin, or whatever. He’d keep calling parts, and players would keep following, until he said “cup,” when everyone would grab at a cup. It was a lot more fun than this description!
You may notice Cherryl in this round… she lasted till almost the very end! Sharon barely lost the final shoot-out… to her daughter! Not bad for a gal in her 90’s!

A couple of Model T Fords anchored the site. This one is a racy runabout – stripped of needless weight, it would have been a very sporty number back in the day. It’s in gorgeous condition now!

This 1925 Model T is also in great shape. One hundred years old! Still running! The patriotic set of cans on the running board hold gas, water and oil. Just in case.

Tom and Linda were married on this property maybe 16 years ago, and were chauffeured off in this exact Model T. So I had to get their picture to commemorate the event!

Marlyn has told me about a 1928 Cadillac he has in storage. It hasn’t run in at least a decade, because it needs a new water pump. (Anyone know where a 1928 Cadillac water pump may be?)
I got a quick look at this old beauty.

The dashboard looks great, with nicely finished wood trim. (I only dared to get partway in, hence the one leg in the picture.)

The Cadillac Crest has evolved a lot over the years, and here it shines in the center of the instrument panel. The circular speedometer reads “0,” but you can see the other end of the circle would say 75 if you were very brave.

All the upholstery is original, and in remarkably great shape! The rolled up curtains above the windows are original, too. Actually, the whole car is original except some newer carpet has been laid on the floors.
A magnificent vintage vehicle!!

Our class is planning a campout next month, and since we no longer have our little motorhome, we decided to try out tent camping. It’s been quite a few decades since we’ve done any tent camping, so this will be an interesting adventure. We now have our tent, water jug, ice chest, a couple of cots and sleeping bags. Almost there! Let us know what else you think we need!

One evening we wanted to return some books to the library, and got there just before they closed. It was too beautiful of an evening to just go home, so we took a walk in the park nearby. A nice bridge crosses the rail road tracks, and our timing was perfect to witness a train swoosh right below us. It looked pretty cool in the twilight.
