The Anchor is Set

Last week I mentioned that we were dropping anchor in Lincoln, Nebraska. Well, it looks like the anchor is set… we closed on this house on Monday! We are very blessed to have a beautiful house, with a very nice garage… one of my first tasks is to make the garage a beautiful room too!

We bought a few appliances last week, and arranged to have them delivered Monday afternoon, since we were to close on the house at noon. At 7:12 am, I got a call, saying the delivery people were 5 minutes away! (I’d cleared with the builder that he was OK if we delivered before closing, because I thought that might be a problem) But 7 am!! Crazy! We were staying at Kevin and Becky’s house, only a couple of minutes away, so I beat the delivery guys there. I had the code to open the garage, so I could let these guys in.

They dropped the big boxes on the road, stripped all the cardboard away, got rid of the styrofoam, and hefted the appliances into the house. Pretty impressive.

I hadn’t paid for the installation, so I got the fun of hooking everything up and removing all the packing tape!

If you’ve read this blog before, you know we’ve been on the road for the last 6 years or so. All our furniture is built into our motorhome. So we had very little to move into the new house… Below you can see our bedroom, with a mattress loaned by Kevin and Becky. Also notice the “Cardboard Curtains.” The living room is furnished with a couple of folding chairs we brought from the motorhome, and a couple of folding tables.

The sunset was pretty inviting:

People may laugh at this, but I don’t want to put the car in the garage until I’ve sealed the concrete with a super durable, good looking coating. And it will take a bit of time. I’ve gotta be patient.

On a walk early in the morning, we saw a huge Cat being delivered. As soon as it was light, the Cat started digging a new hole for a foundation – two doors down from us. They had the whole hole dug out in less than a day, creating a couple huge dirt mountains. I’m guessing they get hauled off pretty soon.

We might not have much furniture inside, but our good friend Malcolm offered us some patio furniture he wasn’t using, so now our front porch looks inviting! Thank you Malcolm!!

Lots of empty lots are in the neighborhood, and these Cats seem to show up frequently to dig more foundation holes. This isn’t right next door, but on the next street down. I think I’ll take a series of photos of the one next door (one door down) going up. Maybe I could make a time-lapse series of it.

That’s about it for our week. We have been working on all the little things needed, as well as looking for furniture, to make our house a home.

We’ll see if next week we have more to show for all our efforts!
