Dropping Anchor in Lincoln?

Our first church service as Lincoln residents happened to be Parent’s Weekend at the College View Church. The orchestra was fabulous! It even included a harp! The whole service was terrific. Made us feel like our choice to live here would work out ok!

That afternoon was a sad one, however. We have been friends with the McClellands for years; “Mr. Mac” is a great artist, and led the art department at Union College for years. His wife Huda is a wonderful lady, and also a great cook! Their daughter Laurel worked in summer camp with our daughter Karen years ago. Laurel is a very accomplished violinist, and her brother Jimmy was a talented musician on many instruments. Tragically, Jimmy passed away this summer. While we didn’t know him well, we learned a lot about his creativity and humor at his memorial service. It was done very nicely, and Laurel even played a couple beautiful pieces on the violin.

Sunday we heard there was a small informal car show near the church. Of course, we had to check it out. Quite an eclectic assortment of cars.

My favorite was this 1912 Ford Model T. On display with it was a plaque about what the world was like in 1912, centering on the sinking of the Titanic. That puts this all in perspective…

I saw this beautiful life lesson on the wall in our friend Malcolm’s home:

One evening during a walk with Kevin and Becky and the Grandkids, we saw a pretty unusual sunset! Or maybe it’s not so unusual here… we’re new here!

Later in the week was a birthday party for our niece Crista’s kid, William. Lots of kids having fun! The bubbles in the backyard were a hit.

Uncle Steve showed his skill in creating whale sized bubbles!

In the house were all the expected birthday things – balloons, cake, and big surprises of a couple of bicycles!

So, houses are going up all over in the south, near Kevin and Becky’s house.

We were hoping to find a house near them, so looked particularly in that area. We looked at TONS of places, online and with the help of our realtor and kids. Below is just to give you a feel for how many places we had to evaluate…

Spoiler Alert: while the pictures above are not all that we looked at, the one we chose is in the mix! Wanna guess which one?
