While in Lincoln we’ve been staying at the Sandhills Global Event Center. They have lots of buildings and arenas, set up primarily for equestrian events. (See Mounted Cowboy Shooting here) There are 1,203 sites for RV’s! Some of them have not been used for a while, and have grass growing 2-3 feet tall, but they could get cleaned up if needed. The back 2/3 of the lot is covered in grass, the front 1/3 is just gravel and dirt. It’s not much to look at, so no pictures here.
The ground looks nice and solid, but when I put the motorhome jacks down, some of them sunk into the ground 6 inches or so. I have 2×12 boards that I use to put under them in situations like these, to spread out the weight and prevent digging holes. My homemade “Jack Pads” are all beat up and broken, so while here I made some new ones. 2x12x24 inch lumber, sandwiched between pieces of 3/8 inch plywood. I routed all the edges smooth, stained them with waterproofer, and put nice handles on one end instead of the holes I’d previously used for hand holds. They are heavy and strong. Time will tell if they outperform my old ones. They are not much to look at, so no pictures here. (Like how I copy phrases from previous paragraphs?)
NIRVC stands for National Indoor R V Centers. They have a great reputation for quality of service and sales. They have 6 locations across the country, and long ago, I booked some of our annual service and some extra stuff to be done in their Nashville, Tennessee location for the middle of June. With some major unplanned events happening here, we debated rescheduling that appointment, but they are hard to get and we decided to keep it. So we left Lincoln and headed for Nashville!
Our first stop was in Kansas City, Missouri. Nice campground, nothing particularly noteworthy:

Another day of leisurely driving took us to Mt. Vernon, Illinois. We spent two nights here, and walked around a nice Veterans’ Memorial Park. A good place for a variety of birds, and quite a few squirrels.

In the campground, we met Daryl and Tiffany – a nice young couple who have just purchased their first RV. This was their first stop from picking it up. They live in California, and flew way out here (Tennessee? Kentucky? Not sure where…) and are driving the New-To-Them rig back home. Quite a long shakedown cruise! Great fun meeting them and seeing their pretty new rig!

So as this nice couple headed west out of the campground, we headed southeast, towards Nashville. We’ll see if NIRVC lives up to its reputation!
