Last Friday evening Becky & Kevin invited us over for dinner… and unusually, they specified a time. And then called and backed it off 15 minutes, saying they weren’t quite ready. Strange! We’ve watched/helped them make dinner many times.
But when we got there at 6:16, this sign was on the door :
And we were greeted by this smiling semi-tuxedoed guy!
It was a surprise 50th year anniversary dinner for us! And quite a surprise it was, especially since our anniversary is in September!
But we had an elegant, wonderful dinner!
The biggest surprise was in the menus – not for our choice of food, but the ability to choose an anniversary trip!
Three well planned possible adventures! They all look fabulous, but Cherryl fell in love with the birding trip to Point Pelee in Ontario very quickly. Peak migration is not too far off, so there’s a real possibility we’ll head that way!
While our kids and grandkids served us a great dinner, our kids in Spokane gave us dining music via the internet! Bryan on the ukulele, Loren on the violin, Karen on the harp. No other restaurant has this quality of music!
A great evening, presenting us with options in plenty of time to choose and embark on nearer our anniversary time! What fun! What awesome families we have!
Saturday night I ventured about 45 west of Lincoln, to a “ranch” that our church owns, for an informal vespers service. A beautiful evening! I was going to take several pictures, but was having so much fun I forgot… sigh.
We had a good turnout- the picture below is about a third of the group. I was going to shoot the other two thirds but got distracted…
I did meet a nice couple, who moved to this area about 10 days ago! Yay! Someone newer here than us! It turns out they were working in Guam for a while, and they know Loren and Karen, our kids! Looking forward to getting to know them better. I also found out they live just a few blocks from us.
The Lincoln Municipal Band has been giving free concerts in the park for 120 years! Every Sunday during the summer! This week’s concert was patriotic-just-after-4th-of-July music. We saw lots of friends, and had a nice time.
I’ve been thinking it’s time to do a transmission service on the Suburban, especially since we might put some miles on pulling our little camping trailer. Should be a nice afternoon’s job, right? I should know better – if I figured an hour or two, it will be double that. You have to take more of the car apart than I would have chosen to drop the transmission pan. I finally got a workaround, after much coaching from YouTube and AI. New filter, gasket, and fluid in only 5 X the time it would have taken at the shop!
While I had the car lift out, I rotated the tires on the Tesla. The silly thing is, Discount Tire will do it for free… but I’ve got the tools and it feels good to do it myself. And to do a job somewhat efficiently, after my forever-long tranny work!
