Garage/Landscape Upgrades

One goal of the nice big garage is to have room to work on cars… maybe if I ever get a classic car to upgrade or maintain, but also to help others work on their cars. Our son-in-law Kevin wanted to replace some steering/axle components on his van, and he is wise and brave enough to tackle it. It turned out to be more complicated than he thought, but aren’t all projects?? He persevered and triumphed!

Note the red chair where I helped by sitting and watching!

Speaking of garages, I am trying to make this one an all-weather garage. I’m installing air-conditioning. Some days it’s been beastly hot, and I’m hoping to make it comfortable to work out there. Especially for our Tuesday evening Carving Club.

While I’ve been working on garage projects, the landscapers have been working on finishing up our yard. There has been a very deep valley between our house and the neighbor’s house, built for drainage but very hard to mow or even walk on. There has been a drain pipe sunk below the grass at the bottom of the valley. We have leveled it off, by placing a new drain pipe from the back yard, through the valley to a planter area we’re creating in the front. Under that area, it meets the previous pipe, and goes under the sidewalk, and out a hole drilled in the curb. After all the piping was installed, dirt was added to level the valley, then new sod placed over everything. Then the planter was created. All this in just a couple of days!

So now we have the West side of our front yard looking good. The East side yard is next! Yay!

In the midst of all this work, birds have been very interested in the hanging planter by the porch. It almost looked like they were looking for a home… Sure enough, if you look very carefully, you can see a tiny next with at least 5 eggs! The birds disappear into the thick flowers, and are very hard to see.

A couple of nights ago the sunset was spectacular!

P.S. I love maps, and I found this whimsical chart to date world maps. If you are into maps and history, and maybe a bit of fantasy, you might enjoy this chart. Or save a copy, since you never know when you might need it!
