Fam in Japan

Last week I mentioned that we had the whole family in Japan – Sort of a Family Reunion and a reunion for Cherryl and I with Japan. We have been having way too much fun for me to be sorting pictures!

So today’s blog is going to be just a few shots of things we’ve been seeing… and I’m not even going to tell you much background about the places. I hope by next week I can have a coherent trip outline put together!

So now just enjoy a few sparsely annotated pictures!

We walked about 17,000 steps per day. When we quit a day’s exploration, we were tired!

I like offering to take other folk’s pictures for them, and meet some fun people that way. These couple of girls were happy I could help them like that, and let me take one for me… and then I got in too! Fun!

While touring the Ginza area, we came across a Nissan Dealership. They had a couple concept cars there, and we had to go investigate.

This one had what looked like a glowing Rubik’s Cube in the front, so we needed to get the Rubik’s wizard, Bryan, to pose in front of it.

Gardens in temples and shrines contrast dramatically with modern skyscrapers.

This is the old face of the Tokyo train station. The building is many times this size now, but they’ve preserved an original façade. We did have a bit of rain that day, but nothing that got too seriously in our way. (The hotel loaned us umbrellas)

Some of the architecture is fascinating!

We spent some time on the Tokyo Shibuya Sky. It is the entire top of the tallest building in the area, and affords amazing views of the seemingly never ending city.

One evening we had dinner at a robot – restaurant. Every table had a friendly robot to chat with and entertain you. (Some worked better than others) You ordered food on your smartphone, and a different kind of robot would deliver it to your table. Very interesting!

  1. Bruce! This brings back good memories from my time living in Japan. I haven’t been back since 1998. My husband and I just watched the Richard Chamberlain Shogun miniseries. I thought it was well-done, culturally sensitive. Not sure how long ago it was made, the 80s? Anyhow, I’m also subscribing to this blog from my new email address, so don’t feel bad when I unsubscribe from the old. 🙂
