This week and last week have gotten a bit jumbled up. The week’s blog should have been about driving the hearse to Colorado and Joanne’s graveside service. I mentioned that service last week (read about it here if you want.)
Now I am going to talk a little bit about how we got there, and the rest of the week.
We picked up Joanne and her casket at the mortuary in Lincoln Monday morning. Steve and I took turns driving the Suburban-turned-hearse, while Cherryl and Jeanne drove their car. The drive went well, with only occasional thoughts about the weirdness of our cargo. We arrived at the Evergreen, Colorado, memorial park Monday afternoon, and delivered the casket to them. We then checked into a rental mountain home with an awesome view.. It was time to rest! The graveside service was done Tuesday morning, and we took the afternoon off after that! Dinner that night was with Lonnie and Laura, and we had a great time with them.

Our house in the mountains provided plenty of beautiful places to walk. We passed this home, which is set back from the road and quite a bit down. They have a sign saying to throw the newspaper down the cliff to the home. Made me laugh.

Here are just a few shots of the neighborhood. Gotta love the beautiful mountain scenery!

We decided we were not going to try to cook any of our own meals on this excursion to Colorado, so we hit a lot more restaurants than we usually do. I am not a take-pictures-of-my-food kind of guy, but our lunch at First Watch was so beautiful I broke my tradition. Some kind of fruit french toast, and blueberry lemon cornbread… fantastic!

Steve seems to be very excited about his plate!

As I mentioned, the view from the deck of our rental house was awesome.

Wednesday we went back to the Evergreen Memorial Gardens for a short visit, then drove all the way back to Lincoln.
Later in the week we spent a nice evening sitting outside, watching the sunset. Peter looked happy in the weird AirLounge chair!

A peaceful evening to end a rather stressful week!

Condolences to you both on the loss of your mother and mother-in-law. Glad you had a safe drive to Colorado and back to Lincoln.
