Thanksgiving week started off with a wonderful dinner for the community, hosted by the College View Church. Well over 400 people attended a scrumptious banquet, and were entertained by several musicians.

One group was several young girls, including our granddaughter Dayna (on right.)

Then a Men’s Chorus sang… we have family in this group too! Son-in-law Kevin is second from left. Brother-in-law Steve should have been there, but he was out of town.

Then there was an appearance of the whole choir: fantastic!

I’ve put up a few pictures of my little drywall project in Kevin & Becky’s garage. Just for the record, we did get it done and it looks great!

Getting ready for our family Thanksgiving Dinner, we had lots of fun! Peter and Dayna enjoyed peeling apples for an apple pie on the cool apple peeler machine.

Becky used her new lattice maker to make a beautiful crust on the apple pie.

I’ve gotten a reputation for making lemon meringue pies at thanksgiving. I wasn’t going to do that this year, as it seems lemon pies don’t really fit the theme. Jeanne heard that, and said she really was hoping I’d do it again, so I did. Probably the best lemon meringue pie I’ve ever made!

The most impressive (in some ways) was an Apple Rose Custard Pie. Becky has a cookbook featuring this pie covered with roses made from extremely thin sliced apples. The crust is made with pecans, then lined with a strawberry preserve layer, then filled with custard. The apples are sliced amazingly thin (on a slicer machine) and soaked in a liquid to make them pliable. Then they are curled and shaped into the roses and placed on top of the custard. If it sounds like a lot of work – IT IS! It made a very unique pie… but far more interesting to look at than eat. It wasn’t the kind of pie that makes you wish for seconds. But boy, was it pretty!

Pies weren’t the only thing we had for dinner. There were something like 19 of us at Jeanne’s house, and we had lots of food!

The only turkey that showed up with our gang of (mostly) vegetarians!

Tons of great food!

Yes, we had enough pie.

Later Nelsons put up their tree and lots of other decorations:

That Sabbath my sister-in-law’s granddaughter, Aubrey, played the cello for church. She did so well!
