Come in out of the cold!

We’ve had some really COLD weather lately! Like today! It was -3 when we got up, and midafternoon it was 4! Yesterday was a tad warmer, and we thought we’d try out our new birding scope… Went to Stagecoach State Park, and saw ice and a couple dozen crows. We didn’t last too long! But the scope is wonderful.

A couple of weeks ago we got to help our church with Food Net. This happens every Sunday. Several stores donate “almost too old to sell” food, and Food Net volunteers pick it up, a few trailers worth, and deliver it to the church. Then more volunteers sort and organize it all, and finally, folks who need food come and get it! The amount of food was amazing to me! Veggies, fruit, fried chicken, meats, bread galore! If some of the food is still left after everyone gets their fill, it is sent elsewhere to another charity group. I was blown away by how much food was brought in, and how much went out – and then found out there are 18 of these Food Net setups in Lincoln!

Then this week I was invited to help with an event at Peoples’ City Mission, in North West Lincoln. We had tons of volunteers, again helping folks that need it. I’m guessing well over 100 folks showed up. Four gals gave haircuts, and that was very popular. Eight or more nursing students gave foot care, including pedicures… this was also in high demand. Others gave manicures, operated craft tables for the kids, made balloon animals or read stories to kids. It was really fun to see so many get much appreciated services.

We have a little woodcarving club that meets at our place on Tuesday evenings. This week Alan brought some things he’d made at home on his lathe. While these would probably be called woodworking rather than woodcarving, his creative genius and skill seems worth showing off! I forgot to take pictures of them at our meeting time, so when at his home later in the week I took these. Really nice!

And one little Post Script…

His little dog, imitating the larger mammals in the picture above him…
