Back from the great time in Japan… just trying to get back to normal.
We’re still working on our yard – so no changes here, but the sky was so pretty I had to shoot it!
Spent a morning walking around Holmes Lake. Amazingly pretty for being basically surrounded by city.
Cherryl’s sister Jeanne is in the hospital getting pretty drastic surgery to get rid of some nasty oral cancer. It’s too horrible to talk about, so I won’t. But we are taking care of her dog… Kaia has beautiful blue eyes- shocking on a dog. I think she misses her real family, but she’s doing pretty well here. I’m guessing we are dog owners for a couple of weeks.
She loves fetching things and playing tug-of-war!
I miss the woodcarving club I attended in Tucson, so I decided to start one here. We have about 6 folks that come every week, and we have a lot of fun. We decided to have a booth at the Farmer’s Market that meets on Sunday, and see if we can find others that would like to join us!
We took a bunch of things that members have carved, and had a fun (if tiring) day.
I started a new carving, and took a few pictures to show how it is done. I’m working off a pattern found in a magazine. Glue the pix on a piece of wood, take a band saw to it, and you end up with a funny looking shape, that perhaps you can make into a figure!
A band set up right next to our booth – I’m not even sure what you call their kind of music, but it was fun. And pretty much precluded talking when they were playing!
The Market was pretty busy, but by the time I got to walk around, it was almost closing time and the crowds were gone. We met several folks who seemed interested in carving; I hope some of them show up!
Walking around our neighborhood is pleasant. If we walk south and east, we see lots of houses being built. If we walk straight west, it feels like we’re out in the country! Soybeans and corn both are grown fairly close to our home.
Like Holmes Lake is somewhat surprising to experience in the middle of town, our scenery seems amazingly rural for being a couple of blocks from our house.
OK, this is not our house. But it’s on the walk west, and beautiful enough I had to include it.
