To celebrate the special, sacred significance of Easter, our church had a play put on by the children… even written by my niece! They did a great job of portraying aspects of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Very well done!
We did get in a bit of the more secular celebrations that are traditions on Easter… namely Easter egg coloring, hiding, and searching for. My nieces were using a technique I’d never seen before… instead of dipping eggs in liquid dyes, they mixed food coloring into muffin tins full of Cool-Whip. The colors were swirled around, and the eggs came out gooey and funny… but they were allowed to sit with the goop on them for a while, and then rinsed off. The results were many colors softly blended – Very pretty. You may wonder where are the pictures of the finished eggs… I apparently was side tracked and missed that picture. Imagine.
We had a “Brunch” in the afternoon. We had a lot of awesome breakfast food mid-afternoon. What’s not to like about that!? Becky made some Scandinavian cardamon buns. They are hollowed out, and some kind of almond paste put in the middle, then a lot of whipped cream, and then the little top was placed back on. Very fun! We were told if you didn’t get whipped cream on your nose when eating them, they weren’t made properly. (They were very properly made.)
All this celebration was taking place at Jeanne and Steve’s place, and it rained most of the afternoon. By the time we finished eating, however, the rain had stopped long enough that we could hide eggs in the back yard. Six kiddos, 163 eggs… some real, most plastic with goodies inside. We had fun hiding them all, and the kids made short work of finding everything. They brought their hauls inside, and we counted them… 163! Amazing! We didn’t have to go back out and try to find some remnants.
One evening it was said that the Northern Lights might be visible as far south as Lincoln. I’m pretty good at sleeping at night, but I got up in the middle of the night to see if I could see anything. I couldn’t, but sometimes the camera can see things I can’t. But not this time. There was an interesting streak on the left of one of my pictures. A meteor? A UFO? It turns out it is the light hitting the eve of the house.
We are getting a woodcarving club going, and we meet every Tuesday evening in our garage. One of our members is Daniel, and his wife was out of town on business for his birthday. She wanted us to get him an ice cream cake to surprise him at the carving club the night before his birthday. (She paid for it.) We skipped the usual “Happy Birthday” inscription for something more appropriate for our carving club.
Daniel took it a bit more seriously than I would have felt comfortable with, and used his carving knife to get his first taste! Ouch!
We had a great time eating the carved cake!
Karen and Loren, our kids in Spokane, said they wanted to get us a belated house warming gift… a game table that our grandkids would like to play with. So they arranged for us to get this cute little pool table, that also has a top you can place on it to make a ping pong table. They are rather small, but that makes them just the right size for cool grandkids. This week was the first that they could see and play with the new pool table, and it was fun to see their reaction. Thank you Karen and Loren!
One evening the sunset was so pretty I had to shoot it. No Northern Lights, no meteors, no UFO’s, but just a very nice evening!
PS: Cherryl has been doing some great stuff with Sourdough! So tasty! Really wonderful! But it’s not easy taming the stuff. Proof is in the picture below. It’s not my picture; I stole it off the internet. But It captures the essence of how easy the stuff is to work with!
Wait for it…
