The Week Before Christmas

Sunday was Peter’s guitar recital. He looks so serious! He played very well! We’re so Proud!

His recital was in the music building at Union Adventist University, and afterwards we had refreshments in another area. In the corner was this interesting Steinway piano dating from 1870. It was restored in 1961, and donated to the University in 2015. We didn’t get to hear it played…

Monday morning we took off for Spokane. The airport in Omaha is getting some work done:

Our flight to Denver was delayed about an hour, so when we landed at B69, we walked rapidly to gate B49, and got there a very few minutes before they closed the door! No lunch stops or bathroom breaks on this stop!

Flying over the snow on the Rockies was magnificent.

When we landed in Spokane, there was plenty of snow, but no visibility.

But once we got to the kid’s house, the views were beautiful.

So quiet you can even hear the train way in the distance.

Tuesday night was Bryan’s School Christmas Concert. They all did really well, but Bryan stole the show with a great Trumpet Solo!

Wednesday was our pre-Christmas dinner. We had all the fun food, including Apple Pie and Pecan Pie. Yum!

Ashlyn loves climbing, and she amazes me with her bouldering skills!

This short video shows her doing a few of the routes. If you’re not familiar with climbing like this, you could just climb up with any of the holds on the wall. To do a particular rated climb, you only use the same color all the way up the route. She makes it look far easier than it is! Terrific!

As Bryan’s school wound down, they had a couple volleyball games between the students and parents/teachers. The adults managed to win all three games I saw, but both sides played really well! It was really fun, especially when the kids made plays that embarrassed the “old folks!”

I was able to film the family practicing for a church program. They kept telling me not to record them, because they were just practicing and not ready yet. If they did this well when not ready, I’m sure the performances will be awesome! (I’m not sure if this first video is for a show or just them messing around.)

Thursday night was the night Ashlyn’s school did a magnificent concert downtown, in the Fox Theater. Built in 1931, it was the most gorgeous theater in the Fox chain. As time went on, the world changed, and the awesome Fox fell into decline. In 2000, the Spokane Symphony purchased it, and worked hard to save it from being destroyed to put in a parking lot. (Really!) Several years later, and after many millions spent, the Fox reemerged as a beautiful concert venue.

For the last 15 years or so, the school has rented the theater for Christmas Programs, and put on absolutely wonderful shows.

You might find Ashlyn in the center of these pictures…

Following are a few short excerpts from the concert:

Friday morning I had the privilege of attending Bryan’s class doing a waffle breakfast for students and parents. (and Grandparents)

All too soon it was time for a couple flights home.
